Children identified as needing additional support (either identified through the Children's Centres or referred by other professionals) can access a range of programmes to support young children and their families who may have a developmental delay or Special Education Needs or Disabilities.
Programmes include:
• Attention Hillingdon: A programme to support children’s attention & listening skills. This can be accessed by parents at children centres and delivered by trained practitioners.
• Language for Life: A programme to support parents understanding of child’s language development, with opportunities to practice these skills in an engaging play environment.
• I CAN workshop: An online workshop for parents/carers waiting to start a Language for Life Course to give them a greater understanding of language development
• Early Bird : An accredited 10-week programme that aims to support parents with the knowledge and understanding of autism and consider how autism impacts their individual child. Strategies and techniques are explored to support behavior, communication, and development. This is delivered by trained Early Bird Children's Centre Practitioners and the SEND Advisory Service.
• Ducklings: An online course to support parents/carers with a child, newly diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or awaiting an assessment with the Child Development Centre. This session supports parents/carers to understand and increase their awareness of ASD, supporting child development, exploring strategies to support family life, providing information, advice and signposting.
• Stay and Play +: Sessions for families to promote development for children providing play, interaction and engagement, in an inclusive learning environment. This session is aimed at those who have attended Attention Hillingdon and/or Language for Life and children with special educational needs and disabilities (and emerging needs)
• Signalong: An introduction to Signalong course for parents/carers of children with additional needs to learn to communicate with their child delivered by an accredited Signalong trainer.
